CADVenture Success Story – Whirley Industries

Engineering Department TeamMates Ruth MeClellan Mold Design Supervisor, Dwayne Tyler and Mark Shene, Mold Designers, along with Brad Bielawski, Production Engineering CAD Drafter, recently completed 64 hours of training in new software program called SolidWorks. 'We're really excited about this new program because it enables us to see our drawings in 3-D,' says Ruth. "Instead of looking at individual drawings to check the placement o fscrews, water lines, etc. in new mold designs, the software program automatically shows us three dimensions for thorough observations," she adds.

Being able to turn the model drawings and see all the sides will help avoid costly errors and save development time. In fact, a recent project that normally would require 2 weeks to complete was finished in one week. We can e-mail our drawings directly to the shops that will be building our new molds and discuss the process or review problems with a mold to ensure a proper repair," says Ruth.

The program also features an administrative system similar to a "library" where drawing files may he stored and then "checked out" by TeamMates to review and update information to keep everyone involved in the project informed.
